2016 WAS A REMARKABLE YEAR.

For many, the presidential election result will

define 2016 for lifetimes to come. In these

pages, however, I am pleased to share with

you an alternative narrative for 2016—one

of progress and impact. From passage of

Vermont’s Birth Control Access Law and Maine

Medicaid expansion for family planning services

to new levels of access to the most effective

birth control methods like IUDs, Planned

Parenthood of Northern New England (PPNNE)

had a watershed year.

PPNNE HAS EDUCATED, ADVOCATED

AND PROVIDED HEALTH CARE FOR

MORE THAN 50 YEARS.

Honest, accurate sex education; compassionate,

non-judgmental health care; and increased

access to sexual and reproductive health care are

hallmarks of our everyday work. But the health

of our communities and the persistent culture of

shame around sex and sexuality demand that we

do more.

This is the work PPNNE took on in 2016.

This is the work your support made possible.

We not only served nearly 42,000 patients

regardless of their ability to pay, we continued

our groundbreaking program to address the

nearly 50% unintended pregnancy rate in our

region by building new partnerships with health

care and social service providers. In the absence

of affordable services for transgender patients,

we trained all PPNNE providers to deliver this

care. In response to the rampant stigmatization

of abortion, we piloted a systematic approach

to engaging people in conversations about

abortion with the goal of changing how they

think about the issue.

I hope you feel the momentum of PPNNE’s

2016 accomplishments. Even in the most

threatening political environment, our progress

is an unstoppable force.

THANK YOU FOR STANDING WITH US.

Forward together,

Meagan
